STEVENS POINT – Delta Dental is moving forward with plans to build a new office building in the Portage County Business Park.
Stevens Point’s City Plan Commission will review a plan Monday from Delta Dental for its proposed office building at 3100 Business Park Drive in Stevens Point.
The dental insurance company has an existing building at 2801 Hoover Road, but according to city documents, the company has outgrown the facility. Plans for a new site include a three-story, 133,000-square-foot office building with two parking lots and additional parking at a lower level.
The building will include offices and work space for about 450 employees. The company currently has about 375 employees, so a larger space would accommodate any future growth and its employees who work remotely, said Pamela Gartmann, vice president of administration for Delta Dental of Wisconsin.
Gartmann said once the company gets city approvals, Delta Dental will work to finalize plans with its board of directors. If approvals go through, construction could start this summer, she said.
Once the new building is operational, Gartmann said Delta Dental would look to sell the Hoover Road building or have another business move into it.
In a report to commission members, city staff recommends approval of the proposed office building, saying the site and building are well-planned and designed. The building will fit well within the business park and be a benefit to the community, staff said in the report.
If approved by the commission, the plan would require Common Council approval before moving forward.
